DIY Metal Chess Pieces SEt Out From Hardware Store

industrial look chess set

Have you seen this concept before? Yes? Me too.

And, I really made an effort one time and checked out screw bolt nuts store and I failed making a chess set. It’s not as easy as it looks. Once nearby the bolts/nuts bins, it is hard to come up with the chess pieces (the knight especially) without a ready plan.

Add the fact that wholesale-thinking hardware store clerk and/or owner are not that interested on 200-peso bolts and nuts sale. And so, screw it (pun intended), the chess project is on hold.

But who knows, with this great work by Julia as an added inspiration + a little free time to swing by hardware store + a little more customer-friendly Chinese hardware store owner, I may be able to do a DIY metallic chess set someday.

These pieces are very heavy and very stable. You have to work to tip them over. Many of them make a jingling sound !! You can mix and match parts and get as creative as you want. Your hardware store may contain many more parts than mine did. Note that some of the nuts will have a fine thread. These will only thread a little bit onto the coarse threaded rod before they jam. That ‘s okay if those pieces are use for the tops, as in the bishop.
