Celebrity Buys: Joe D Mango Love Buys

Check mic 1-2 1-2, check mic 1-2.

Check out who visited Leoque Philippines yesterday, none other than Joe d Mango. Not the DJ Joe but the interior designer Joe.

joe d mango, the interior designer

I didn’t know this but apparently he’s into interior designing now. Now I know. But before we could even ask him for love advice, we turned our attention to his buys… the  paddle (sagwan), a terracotta jar and the glam frame. Too bad, we missed out on free personal love notes and quotes from the love guru. Anyways, there’s always a next time. Who knows, he might come back. By then, I’ll ask some love questions.  Check his site and his works, I saw nice projects in there.

NOTE: Many thanks to our dear Filipino-Filipina celebs for allowing Leoque furniture to grace your homes. If you feel like removing your name – the notes – your picture – “your buy” on this post, please contact us. We will remove the data or the whole post ASAP. We are proud that our furniture landed in celebrity homes but we respect your privacy more. We ask for permission before posting notes and/or photos.

Glass pebbles

Glass pebbles – a versatile choice, easy and cheap way too to add color and fun to your space. {Also called glass gems, vase gems, glass marbles, deco gems}

Get these glass pebbles! As an alternate to the crystal-like glass pebbles, play marbles (colored) are ok too. When light is pointed or directed to the pebbles, the polished finish, the colors and the transparency adds to the beauty of the set. Fill bowls, tower glasses, jars with these. See sample here, the fish loves this, and the pig too.

A Nail’s Art

Mother of mercy! Life is unfair. Some guys are just born gifted. Real artists. They see and envision things we ordinary mortals can’t see.

Check the work of this guy, Vlad. Using ordinary crooked, bent, rusting nails and some other home stuff, and he has got one pure artistic set of photos of nails suggesting life situations, feelings, failures, etc. These nails freaking breathe.

I got nails and screws and stuff and camera…. Inspired by this, we’re gonna be making our own version of this. I hope its fine by you comrade Vlad.

Leoque’s New Logo

new logo - house of leoque

new logo - house of leoque

The idea that is “house of leoque” popped out last summer 2009. That’s the time when we posted that we are to transfer to what’s supposed to be a bigger office. (BTW, it turns out the place where the furniture are is still small. 24/7, we are on a lookout for a bigger and better warehouse or showroom.)

Then, last September 14, 2009, we needed a quick logo banner for posting over at our architect friend’s site, 215-design.com. And the “House of Leoque” logo was born…

Looking for Leoque

looking-for-leoque

Juzt zaw thiz, the Google.com form or search bar field, auto enters “leoque”, “leoque.com”, “leoque collection” when you start typing.. l-e-o-q…

Could be, that the Google engine is crawling our website and therefore has thousand search results ready in anticipation of “leoque” search. It could also mean that, the amazingly intelligent Google search engine and architecture sees that many and by many I mean 200 in two weeks people are searching for “leoque”. With this, either Google is damn super intelligent and anticipates what we are looking for – OR – I am the dumb one.

Try it here… google.com.

Oops, am not that dumb. As per site logs, this first 2 weeks of Feburary 2010, people are indeed looking for “leoque”, “leoque furniture” and “leoque collection”.

See search strings below:

The curious case of brown bookshelves

brown-ladder-bookcase (2) brown-ladder-bookcase

We started producing the ladder shelves furniture the year 2008. And the color finish we started doing was the dark brown and units started rolling, or shall we say, leaning.

In the succeeding months, more orders for these ladders started coming in but for most of the orders, they wanted it in total black or the almost nothing-on-it, natural finish. Somehow the dark brown version was gone from the running models. Curiously, we never made the dark browns again all these months though it sold well early. Until now.

From now on, we gonna make brown again. I miss brown. Not this Brown

L-type wall mount metal bracket

bakit l-bracket?

bakit L-bracket?

For the lean-in furniture we sell (i.e. ladder bookcase, ladder shelves, ladder type computer table), we haven’t heard any issues of sliding thus far. Please contact us if you experienced some sort of a slide (excluding any instance where great deal of external force was applied ) and help us build better furniture.

But for those who want assurance and don’t mind the possible eye-semi-sore that it will give, we recommend the metal L-bracket or wall-mount bracket. Oh wait, you can discreetly fix-mount the ladder shelves and ladder laptop table. For it to be not easily visible, just mount it atop the highest shelf for the computer table. For the ladder shelves, you can screw the mounting bracket below the first layer shelf.

These brackets can also be used in other applications like additional support for panel bookcase, fixed floor mount table legs or chair legs (to prevent movement and even theft of chairs and tables in public areas), enforce wood joint corners, etc.

These L-brackets come in different form and sizes. Will not cost over P20.00 and easily available at your favorite hardware store around the bend, and most definitely available at “convenience hardware stores” like Ace Hardware (the helpful place by the way). Do It Yourself Hardware, Handyman, True Value, etc.  Go over any of these hardware stores and buy the metal l-brackets.

And, don’t forget to buy the lean-in shelves and lean-in  type computer table too.  :-)

A mother’s mother of pearl

My friend asked me to photo-shoot her mother of pearl earrings, a valentines gift given to her. It took me several minutes in finding the beauty of this mother of pearl for one to dish out some 400USD for a pair. I just can’t find it. I really can’t.

UPDATED 2-20-2010: I’m told, the earrings are south sea pearl. Not Mother of pearl. See, I told you so, I don’t know anything about pearly jewelries. I promise, no more earrings post for me.

Then again, women think differently about these stuff, the kikay things, the bags, fragrances, etc. Same way, men are addicted to HID lamps, spoilers, and car side skirts and smartphones. So it’s just fair & balanced world… if and when budget permits, send in the M.O.P. jewelry gift for the women of our lives. And then, let’s buy the Blackberry.

The pics…

Notes:

  • If you want a pair, I’ll refer you to the seller of the mother of pearl earrings.
  • The mother of pearl earrings was shot atop the cocoframe.
  • We sell something mother of pearl-thingy… the coasters.

Planning out versus panning out

This is the second installment of the “drawing vs doing.” Check the first one here (The furniture drawing vs furniture doing). Same as before, below are some units we drew and planned out. We eventually produced the furniture design. See how they panned out. Please click the link for the actual pieces, who knows, you’ll be interested on some our furniture takes ‘n makes.

Pen Cup

We’ve posted the pen holder already but reposting here coz the little troll wants us to. You don’t want to provoke a troll I am told. BTW, let’s play a game called “FIND THE FREAKIN TROLL.” Somewhere in this post, this same little troll lurks in the background. If you find him, pat yourself in the back and congrats ‘coz you still have 20/20 vision.
