Wallpapered Furniture

Turn old console table, side boards, chest of drawers, cupboards, dressers into quirky, elegant, jazzed up, fashionable, fun, stylish (insert more adjectives here!) furniture.

Check Bryonie Porter’s furniture collection here. She can wallpaper old furniture, room walls and maybe she can also supply the furniture and wallpapered already.

Of course, you can try DIY-ing this but above average crafting-skill may be necessary. Corners, edges & carvings of furniture are hard to do and final coat of lacquer is needed. I remember wasting two frost-glass-look-rolls once upon a time. I still end up calling the pros eventually. And, for maximum effect, you may need real good designer-look wallpapers with right texture and prints. You can contact some friendly decorators or interior designers and ask if they know professional “wallpaperer” and/or “specialist” that can do this. Or, let your interior designer take care of the furniture customizing.

If you’re here in the Philippines, check her site for inspiration. And, if you reside where she’s at (she is in UK I think), you may phone her and discuss stuff.

Choco Brown Coffee Table, Hot Selling Cross Design

choco-brown-coffee-table choco-brown-coffee-table-1 choco-brown-coffee-table-2 choco-brown-coffee-table-3

A choco brown… a coffee… no, we’re not talking about a hot morning beverage sip. Rather, we’re posting here is the variant of the center/coffe table cross legs design. Aside from the natural varnished finish & the black paint finish, we now have this in darker brown. Different finishes, but hidden beneath the surface is still ol’ solid acacia wood slab. Perfect!

Elements of China, My Photos

While going over the Elements of China coffee table book, it dawned on me that I might have stocks photos of… Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal & Earth. And after few minutes of browsing the hard drive, somehow, I have. Not exactly at par with the photos in that coffee book but still, it’s worth posting (i think).

Another coffee book - photo book I grabbed from a thrift shop… this is Elements of China coffee table book. With full color photography and short narration of things related to the following elements…

  • Wood
  • Fire
  • Earth
  • Metal
  • Earth

The above 5 elements are not to be confused the movie I recently watched, Angels and Demons’ four elements of all things in existence: Earth, Air, Fire, and Water. Chinese philosophy rocks! They got five, not four!

Not only this coffee photo book is a visual delight, we’ll also use this as props during our furniture photoshoots :-)

Thou Shall Not Steal Leoque’s Photos

Just a warning…

Some misguided fellas used House of Leoque photos without our permission. That’s basically equal to stealing.

Worse is, one blatantly removed “LEOQUE” watermark and put on their own name/text.

Next time stealing of photos happens, we will not be as kind as today. We will name names & we will do corresponding actions.

God bless us all.

Coffee Table Book: Molesworth, The Pioneer of Western Design

molesworth-native-furniture-coffee-book molesworth-native-furniture-coffee-book-1 molesworth-native-furniture-coffee-book-2 molesworth-native-furniture-coffee-book-3 molesworth-native-furniture-coffee-book-4 molesworth-native-furniture-coffee-book-5 molesworth-native-furniture-coffee-book-6

We got this “Molesworth: Pioneer of Western Design” book from a local Philippine bookstore (i forgot the name, the one at Waltermart Pasong Tamo cor Pasay Road Makati), on sale. Orig price was P1300.

We got it at around P600.

We bought this because we just wanted to have extra coffee table book while shooting some of the coffee tables we sell. It being a furniture coffe table book slash collector’s item is just a bonus.

I browsed the net for more info about the book… turns out, this guy Molesworth is some kind of a furniture legend. And he really is. The book is great. Furniture lovers would really enjoy looking at his native american design and the clear crisp photographs.

If you’re at House of Leoque, you may want to check this out and perhaps draw inspiration from Molesworth furniture pieces.

Info picked up from Amazon

Product Description
Thomas Molesworth, were he alive today, would be both proud and amazed at the influence his Shoshone Furniture Company and the Cody artists’ colony he inspired would have on his old hometown and the Western Design movement seventy-two years after he started producing furniture. Based on nearly two decades of buying, selling, pursuing, and researching Molesworth furniture, Terry Winchell has created a definitive book that covers all spectrums of Molesworth’s work, including the influence of the other artists who made his style unique, as well as stylistically and financially successful. The fact that Molesworth’s furniture career spanned thirty plus years speaks for itself. An excellent guide for collectors of Molesworth’s work, this book is also an invaluable resource for fans of the Western Design movement.

From the Inside Flap
Molesworth: Pioneer of Western Design is the quintessential monograph of the legendary Thomas Molesworth, his life and work. As the first thoroughly detailed and complete guide, it explores Molesworth’s journey to becoming one of the leading western furniture designers. Molesworth’s innovative designs-his sense of balance, simplicity, and artfulness-are visible in all of his efforts. In addition to furniture, he designed lighting, floor treatments, and art to complete his concept of a true western space. Molesworth also used silhouettes, bright colors, and incorporated Native American artifacts and motifs to personalize his work. Found in hotels and other public buildings, ranches, and homes, Molesworth’s quality craftsmanship and superior use of materials are immediately recognizable. While his high-style work centers around practical rustic furniture pieces, at the heart of his work the romantic and enduring spirit of the West is manifest and experienced. A guide for Thomas Molesworth devotees as well as aficionados of western design, this definitive volume details Molesworth’s education, the early years of his career, and the founding and establishment of his Shoshone Furniture Company. Molesworth was incredibly successful at producing world-class furniture and developing lucrative marketing strategies from coast-to-coast. His influence on his hometown of Cody, Wyoming, and the colony of artists he inspired is immeasurable. With a career spanning over thirty years, his influence is profound and sweeping. Indeed, that influence extends into today where a new generation of artists and collectors are dazzled and inspired by Molesworth’s legacy. Flip through the pages of this book to rediscover your love affair with the West and learn more about this visionary designer, craftsman, and western dreamer. back flap Terry Winchell has dealt antiques for nearly two and a half decades as owner of Fighting Bear Antiques in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He is a recognized authority on rustic and Thomas Molesworth furniture. He has performed museum appraisals for the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming, and consulted for the John Toomey Gallery in Chicago and Christie’s in New York. Winchell has been published in Architectural Digest, Art & Antiques, and Cowboys & Indians and has been featured on Home & Garden television, the BBC, and Antiques Roadshow. Most recently, Winchell was a featured speaker at the 3rd Annual Arts and Crafts Weekend Conference and Show in Anaheim, California. He has a degree in business administration from the University of Nebraska. W. Garth Dowling has been working in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, since coming to work for the Jackson Hole News as chief photographer in 1991. Originally from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Garth studied photography at the University of Missouri’s School of Journalism, graduating magna cum laude in 1988. Discount Furniture Store in the Philippines

Discount Furniture Store in the Philippines

Turning your house into a dream home doesn’t have to be mission impossible. It doesn’t have to empty your wallet or max out your credit card limit. The choices should not be limited to few mainstream furniture stores in the Philippines.

Today, extremely affordable furniture can be had via alternative furniture store like say, ahem, House of Leoque. A discount furniture or affordable furniture store like Leoque doesn’t mean it is offering sub standard furniture, hastily made furniture, etc.

In fact, as a furniture store in the Philippines, Leoque has been supplying hundreds & hundreds of furniture pieces/units, some of which are being shipped/cargoed across the Philippines, in different cities/provinces. We’ve supplied hotels, condos, single detached housing units, bargain furniture hunters, interior designers, contractors, wholesale furniture orders, etc…. a testament to the quality of Philippine furniture we supply.

Why an online furniture store like LEOQUE is able to price their furniture low and yet offer great furniture collection?

It is possible that operational costs are cut, thus, these cuts are being passed on to the clients & buyers. Savings could possibly come from renting a smaller showroom (not renting at SM Malls, Ayala Malls, etc.), great inventory system & logistics, outsourcing other works/jobs/specializations, employing compact but skilled pack of designers, craftsmen & wood workers in the pool, utilizing the power of the internet as marketing vehicle, great sourcing of raw materials, maximizing the workforce output, efficient management, etc. All these are factors why affordable & good-quality products are laid on the table, so to speak.

There is a demand for discount furniture & sale furniture, and Leoque should be able to cater to this demand. The hunt is on for great & affordable furniture pieces. And with the fact that online furniture discount stores are plentiful in  the Philippines, we’re positive, you’ll be able to get your furniture requirements in no time. By the way, In your search for Philippine furniture online store, I sure hope you find Leoque Furniture. :-)

Lisa Macuja-Elizalde’s “Artist’s Haven”

A nice article from the Financial Times… Lisa Macuja Elizalde talks about their cribs…. “The Donada Compound” and two other vaction homes at Boracay & Tagaytay Cavite. I’ve seen the Tagaytay castle-like house via one lifestyle magazine and just looking at the pics will make you breathless and truly awed. I can’t just imagine how awesome it is LIVE! Please Mr. Fred Elizalde invite me to do your lawn and how about a cup of coffee eh? =) Ms. Lisa describes her Tagaytay holiday house below, see the excerpts…

What are the best features of the Donada Compound?

There is a beautiful, spacious garden with lots of shade from very old trees, three grand ballet studios and the Ballet Manila (BM) office. So my commute to work is about a minute of walking across the garden from my back door. There is also a pool with a shallow, kid-friendly part, a porch with Wi-Fi and Fred’s painting studio – plus more than 300 paintings and sculptures all over the house and the garden. I guess in that way you could call it an artists’ haven.

Tell me more about the Boracay house.

The Boracay Resthouse is where Missy was conceived. Boracay will always hold a special place in my heart because the island is where Fred took me after he and I got engaged. It used to be the only house on the beach that had a generator. The “old” house consisted of two big porches and three small rooms. Since Fred and I got married he has developed the house to include six cottages using Amanpulo-style architecture. There is a spot on the main porch that even has a ballet barre so I can keep in shape while on a beach vacation. Just like all our other houses, Boracay has Fred’s artworks on display – some of them were even painted in Boracay while we were on holiday. He has a studio (which we call the Cathedral). Our bedroom has a painting on the ceiling. There is a special certificate hanging in every bedroom that certifies that Fred was the first man to free-dive the Camia wreck just off the island.

What about the Tagaytay house?

The Tagaytay house is a huge project still in the making. It was started in the 1970s on Iruhin Grange (the second-highest peak in Tagaytay). It has two floors and several rooms. There are multi-tiered rooms, secret tunnels, secret doors, strange passages, pebbles on the floor, platforms, gates, a great hall, a long dining room table, two fireplaces and several rooftop porches. And there is a bedroom constructed on the side of the mountain underneath the swimming pool with a porthole looking into the pool. In other words, it’s a castle that every child would want to explore and live in. It is Fred’s dream house and is still unfinished. Very colourful, very alive, very Fred.

Condominium Furniture Store Philippines

We can say, more than 50% of our Leoque furniture end up in Philippine condominium units. More than any other market, we would really want to be one of the best stores that serve the condominium furniture in the Philippines. Some of the items we have like side tables, center tables, storage furniture and most especially 2-seater, 3 seater dining tables are geared towards condominium interiors. We try to put balance in the furniture we offer. Meaning, while we know that space is premium in condo living thus we watch the size of the furniture, we still make sure that these “mini” furniture will still be functional & really be appealing still.
