American Standard's As Club Philippines

as club

Last week, I read the American Standard’s AS Club Philippines via interior designer Tessa Prieto-Valdes.

If she was quick to register, who am I not to register ASAP. And I did.

She wrote… “AS Club (www.asclub.com.ph) is an exclusive program for architects, designers and industry practitioners, where they can share innovations and industry trends. The club also offers rewards and discount privileges at all Wilcon outlets.”

Member will have special access to all the content of the website (like featured designer, featured platform, club news, events), including the printable discount coupons. Members can then award the coupons to their customers who may use these to get up to 20% discount on American Standard products at any Wilcon outlet.

For every P1,000 sale, the AS Club member gets one raffle entry that could win him or her exciting prizes in the club’s regular draws. Prizes include iPhones, digital cameras, iPads, free local and overseas trips, iPods, Macs, etc. This June, iPad and a 46″ Samsung HD LCD TV are the prizes waiting to be won.

For people in the industry like construction, interior design, engineering & architecture, you may want to check the site.

Cassette Tape Art - Portraiture

We used to play with defective music cassette tape when we were young. We’d get the tape and use it our spider-silk-web that’s supposed to catch the enemies. And you know how weak this tape is. It only requires exactly 0.0000024 lbs of pull-force before it reaches its snapping point. So it’s useless when used for such.

It turns out, there is a better use for old tapes. I found the after-service purpose of cassette tapes (and VHS tapes, betamax tapes, film reels, etc.), it has something to do with the arts. That is, make black & white artistic portraits of some pop culture icons using this, using only this.

“In this series I showcase a number of portraits of musicians made out of recycled cassette tape with original cassette. Also included are portraits made from old film and reels. The idea comes from a philosopher’s (Ryle) description of how your spirit lives in your body. I imagine we are all, like cassettes, thoughts wrapped up in awkward packaging.”

Some samples below, and I am pickin the music icons I love:

val kilmer, err, jim morrison

boys don't trim

the abbey tape

imagine you own this

not bad

smells like artist's spirit

the zimmerman

May I suggest, let’s find our cassette tape player, dust-off our fave working cassette tapes (Kenny Rogers! Barry Manilow! Eagles! Dionne Warwick!) and play the hits while checking out the complete set here.

President - Apparent Aquino Prefers A Condo Than Staying In Malacanang

"come mr aquino come"

Dear Mr. President, I hope you’re doing fine upon receiving this letter of mine. If you want to stay in Makati, we know there’s one in here. P15,000 unfurnished. And, P25,000 fully furnished. But wait, if you’ll rent say a QC condo (P100,000 to P200,000 rent – you have to house with you, your whole crew – cook – PA – some executive staff – driver – etc.) and shuttle back and forth your wang-wang equipped 25-big-black-Expedition-convoy (45 pesos a liter times 25 vehicles times 10 kilometers) to and from Malacanang, is not that another government expense to add up? Why not live in Malacanang compound or at nearby Arlegui residence?

Don’t forget, you/we have to pay Liz Uy too.

Ariston, Service Center in the Philippines

I’m tempted to finally use my Citibank Rewards points and I am thinking, either a tech gadget (hard drive! I badly need a hard drive again!) or home product. I’m leaning with the latter coz the washing machine we have now sounds like jackhammer. More specifically, the Ariston washing machine showcased at the CitiRewards. But I still need to add cash coz my rewards points is insufficient for that item. Just to be sure, I looked for the Ariston Service Centers and numbers (posted below) and see what warranty will I get in case I’ll get the washing machine via Citibank. I’ll ring Ariston tomorrow, the Citibank CSR as well.

Remember the “all-must-go” first post? Well, this is A.M.G. no. 2.

all must go # 2

When do we do this “all-must-go”posts? Three things have to happen… (1) we see old pic that is unposted, (2) when at least 4 items in the photos are for sale (3) when it’s pretty slow day both in this website & inside our office.

The links:

After the face of the week series, this all-must-go posts is our next running gimmick.
